The joys of Wikipedia vandalism
4 March 2008 by Nick
One of my morning and evening rituals, in addition to checking my e-mails and RSS feeds, is having a look at my watchlist on Wikipedia to see if any articles I’m interested in have been added to. I’m always interested to see which of my watched pages attract the most vandalism. For some reason Oliver Cromwell attracts all sorts of unlikely assertions about his, ahem, private life. Here is this evening’s latest… (don’t click if you are easily offended).

Why does nothing that exciting ever happen to my very dull article on the Militia Ordinance? Apparently it “has a meaningful amount of good content, but it is still weak in many areas, and may lack a key element.” If you can work out what that missing element might be, feel free to add it…
Well if it’s any consolation not much happens to mine on the Barebones Parliament or indeed on Praise-God Barebone himself…
You both get a lot more comments than I do - quite rightly so since your blogs are more interesting and adventurous. But I suspect the point of blogging lies in the mind of the writer. I hope I am right !

Absolutely! I do it because it forces me to collate my thoughts about things I’m reading, and gives me a chance to note down what I’m thinking. But the comments I get (and I don’t get that many - I only get about 60 hits a day) and the fact there is a small but lively early modern blogging community out there, is a great bonus, and one that I really appreciate.
