Books that are now on my list of things to read, having gone a bit mad in Books Etc this lunchtime:
- Michael Braddick, God’s Fury, England’s Fire
- Vic Gatrell, City of Laughter
- Malcolm Gaskill, Witchfinders
Expect a review of Braddick’s book at some point this weekend. I’m saving the other two for the coach trip to Belgium next week – for a second year running I’m helping a history teacher friend take his Year 10s and 11s round the trenches. Expect a post or two about that, too.
In other news, I got my first essay back this evening and found it was received very well. It was an assessment of Brian Manning’s seminal The English People and the English Revolution: I’ll hopefully be posting some bits and bobs from it here at some point.
Have you seen the recent post on Mercurius Rusticus’s site about Manning’s work ? It raises some very serious issues.
You might want to check out Malcolm’s early book- Crime and Mentalities in Early Modern England. Witchfinders is a good read but if you are interested in pamphlets and broadsides I would recommend checking out his earlier work.
