Another handwriting challenge
Below is an extract from the inventory of a Derby ironmonger from 1627. I’ve transcribed nearly all of it here, but I can’t quite make sense of the label at the top of the first column. It’s definitely an h at the start, and I wonder if it could be ‘In the house’, but then given the rest of the inventory itemises things room by room, that doesn’t quite fit for me. Everything that’s listed underneath is either iron or brass items, or tables and stools, which makes me wonder if it’s a list of everything in his shop: it’s not the kitchen, which is itemised separately. I am probably being really stupid but I’d be really grateful for a fresh pair of eyes!
